Abstract

An evaluationo f the transmissionb oundaries developed for the earthquakea nalysis of darn-reservoirs ystems is presented. For the case of rigid darns, the boundary condition that must be fulfilled when the effects of both water compressibility and bedrock flexibility are taken into account is deduced. A relatively simple expression is derived which can be readily applied to analyses by the method of finite or boundary elements. Also, suitable expressions are developed for the computation of the hydrodynamic pressures on the upstream face of the darn, as well as for the corresponding pressure coefficients. Some numerical results showing the influence of the exciting frequency and the bedrock flexibility are presented and discussed.
