Flow profile on an overflow spillway and its verification

Abstract

Many authors have shown different approaches to predict the flow profile and the pressure distributions of water flowing on an overflow spillway. The authors have used flow nets, simplified hypothesis in the potential theory, the shallow-flow equations with curvature by Dressler and other procedures based on the theory of vortex-free flow. Author shows the application of the theory of flow on a curved bed allows predicting the location of the critical section around the crest, the flow profile and the pressure distribution when the shape of the spillway is known.
