Abstract

An analysis is presented of the morphological behavior of the Río Verde, Oaxaca, Mexico on a 55 km stretch from the Paso de la Reina site to the ocean. This study considered the river's original condition, without infrastructure, and its change in morphology after construction of the Ricardo Flores Magón dam and protective levees on both sides. The study is based on topographical surveys and satellite images. Changes that occurred from 1964-2008 were evaluated, considering the changes in the profile of the thalweg, runoff pattern, the river's sinuosity and width. Sedimentation rates obtained from 5 points show notable variation, which indicates the dynamic nature of the sedimentation processes in the river.
