APA References

The following work has been prepared based on the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 3rd edition in spanish. You can buy the original publication by clicking here.

A reference must contain the name of the author, the date of publication, the title of the work and the publication data.

Pay special attention to the spelling of proper names and words in foreign languages, including accents or other special signs, and in the fact that titles, year, volume, number and pages in periodicals are complete.

Only Arabic numerals should be used to place the volume or number of a publication; this is excluded if the non-Arabic number is part of a title.

The names of corporations, associations, governmental institutions and study groups must be placed completely in the list of references and can be abbreviated in their citation within the text. In the Editorial Coordination of Technology and Water Sciences, we accept that the abbreviated name is put first in the list of references and then, separated by a comma, the full name (refer to the book example).

For alphabetical purposes, prepositional phrases are omitted. For example: “de la Garza,” would be ordered as “Garza de la”, thus listed by the letter G, but its original surname remains.

In case the same author or authors have more than one work in the list of references, they will proceed to sort by the year of publication starting with the oldest.

In case the same author or authors have more than one work in the list of references with the same year of publication, they will proceed to sort by the title of the work. The letters a, b, c, … will be used after the year within the parentheses, for their differentiation (2010a, 2010b, etc.).

If a publication or reference work does not have an author, the title must be placed in the author’s position before the date.

If the publication does not contain a date, it must be placed (s.f); in English (n.d).

The title of the publication, be it a magazine, bulletin, newspaper, books, etc., should not be abbreviated.

If a URL is placed in the references, it will be necessary to corroborate its validity before sending and/or publishing the work. If the content is no longer available, it must be replaced by another source or deleted completely.

When you must place the place of edition, or simply the place, you must take the city and the country where the work originates.

Every appointment within the body of the text of the work should be referenced.

Newspaper publication

Are all those publications that have a volume number or ascending order of publication. Some contain both volume and publication number; if one is missing, place it as it should be: if it is placed without parentheses, it will be taken as volume; on the contrary, if it is placed inside a parenthesis, it will mean that it is the publication number.
